A Hampshire man was so keen to kid passers-by into thinking he owned a Ferrari that he painted an image of the classic car on his garage door<\/a>!<\/p>\n

Chris Smart, of Bishopstoke, took around a fortnight to transform his garage doors by painting on the red sports car, real versions of which have been known to change hands for up to \u00a320m.<\/p>\n

Among famous owners of real models like the one Smart painted, the GTO, are radio DJ Chris Evans and Nick Mason of Pink Floyd.<\/p>\n

Mr Smart, 32, who has an art degree and works for a marine organisation, told an interviewer he used a satin varnish and a water-resistant paint to complete the image.<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cAt first one of my neighbours wasn\u2019t too keen, but she grew to like it! We\u2019ve also had kids stop to stare as they\u2019ve been past. Some passers-by have taken photos as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also claims that the door he had on his garage before was \u201creally boring.\u201d<\/p>\n

So, he explains: \u201cI thought I’d make it look as though I\u2019d got a nice sports car parked there. I wanted it to really stand out, so there were no other options. It had to be a red, expensive Ferrari.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the scene\u2019s background, there are old racing scenes to add to the authenticity. The model of Ferrari that has been painted is a GTO, one of the most sought-after vehicles in the world. Only 39 have ever been manufactured.<\/p>\n

In real life Smart drives a BMW rather than a Ferrari.<\/p>\n
