Fitting Bradbury Security Doors

Bradbury Group is a British company based in Scunthorpe which manufactures a range of neat, high security, personnel doors at sensible prices. These strong steel doors are made-to-measure at no extra cost and multi-point locking options are available.

They offer genuine high security – anti-jemmy strip round the edge of the door adds security.

Bradbury doors also have a special hidden hinge chassis system which gives the door maximum strength near the hinges, which are traditionally the weakest point of a door.

  • Choice of size, colour, sill type, door furniture and locking system makes each door bespoke.
  • These heavy duty security doors are approx 50kg per single door set with frame.
  • They are manufactured from 1.2mm zinc coated steel.
  • Doors come with 4 x stainless steel hinges per door and solid steel dog bolts, as standard.

Bradbury Security Doors come pre-framed, as standard which makes on-site installation quick and easy.

Insulation, vents, windows and automatic door closers are all available at little extra cost.

Doors can open in or out and be right or left hand hinged.

Full fire door specification and panic bars also available.

 

We recently supplied and installed a variety of Bradbury security doors in Shrewsbury.

On doors linking to the outside, a stormguard threshold is fitted to prevent water ingress under the door. The green strip is just a packer as the finished tiled floor is yet to be fitted.

Single door with Louvre for ventilation. The frame fixing holes come with black plugs to push into the holes to neatly cap them off. Note between the 2 central plugs, the ‘dog bolts’ or ‘hinge bolts’ which maximise strength and security on the hinge side of the door. The bolts locate into the frame so that impact on the hinge side is protected against.

Fitting an Aluroll

Aluroll produce a very high quality version of the popular type of insulated roller garage door. These doors offer a good level of security, have powdercoated cast aluminium end plates, powdercoated full box housing, as standard, and powdercoated heavy duty guides. They have treble draught seals in the guide channels dramatically reducing any draught into the garage.

A recent installation went as follows:-

Stage 1

 

 

 

A treated softwood ‘sill’ was fitted across this very sloping aperture in order to get it level for the roller door to close onto.

 

Note the white guide channels each side, fitted behind the timber uprights.

 

 

 

 

 

Stage 2

 

 

 

The shutter box is clamped then fixed to the ‘lintel’ to ensure deflection in the box is prevented, which otherwise could put a scratch all the way down the door curtain.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Stage 3

 

 

 

The box (without the lid) sits into the top of the guide channels.

The octagonal shaft has bubble wrap around it to ensure the curtain doesn’t scratch when it is offered into place.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Stage 4 

 

 

 

The wall mounted control box is wired in. The 4 core wire from the motor, that sits inside the octagonal shaft, is wired into the control box.

The control box is supplied with a power lead and plug tap for convenient ‘plugging in’ to the mains power 240 volts.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Stage 5

 

 

The guides, shaft and box enclosure are all in place. The control box is wired in. The door curtain is ready to be offered into place and connected to the shaft.

The last job is to fit the inner lid so that the door mechanism is completely enclosed.

Trip to Wisniowski Factory Poland December 2022

The principal UK importer of the Wisniowski brand of sectional and insulated side hinged garage doors organised and generously paid for a factory visit for a selection of their trade customers. This was the second trip they have organised since their launch of the Wisniowski brand in the UK earlier in this year.

Mark Arridge, MD of Arridge Garage Doors Ltd was invited and this is how it went …..

 

In Bristol Airport Brunel bar at 1pm on Tuesday 6th December 2022 I met up with Lewis our new rep, a lovely guy, who offered me a beer straight away and Jason the sales manager (who was full of cold) plus 8 other trade customers. I strategically avoided the early beers and boarded the plane.

It was a good flight, then a 2 hour drive in the minibus from Krakov airport and we arrived at the Heron Hotel. Built and owned by Mr Wisniowski, just 10 minutes from the factory, this 5 star hotel with a sauna, pools (swimming and snooker type) was a real treat.

Covering the area of approximately 60 football pitches the Wisniowski factory employs 2200 people, makes 200,000 doors per year and has a turnover of £250,000,000 and makes a jolly good garage door.

The vast “overhanging” offices, glass open plan workspaces and unhurried, efficient and friendly, hardworking staff immediately impressed.

It looked like Lloyds of London or something from Dubai certainly compared to any other garage door factory any of us had visited before.

Mr Wisniowski started in 1989 by building his first up and over garage door in his garage at home. He built six, sold them, used the proceeds to build a workshop in which he could build more doors and set himself a target of making one door per day. He’s certainly managed that!

We had the usual corporate introduction by Marcin, the export manager (the one in the chequered jacket in the photo above trying to get the PowerPoint presentation to work) ate homemade pastries, met some other engaging Wisniowski staff and set off on a very long walk.

Unfortunately no photographs were allowed in the actual factory, only in the showroom that showcases the finished products.

No exaggeration here, it was exceptional.

  • Some of the individual corridors were over 500 metres long
  • We walked past at least 8 massive works canteens
  • The factory expanded a few years ago to the other side of the main trunk road so they built a massive bridge over it to join the 2 sites.
  • There was a good mix of high tech machinery and hard working, well trained personnel.
  • We saw some great products:-

With sore feet we ended up in the showroom and looked in detail at the installed products, a super dooper insulated extra posh sectional door not yet launched in the UK and their rather hypnotic range of fencing and gates.

Back to the hotel, 20 minutes in the gym, 20 minutes in the sauna, a dip in the outdoor unheated swimming pool (very brass monkeys) and more beer was consumed. Thankfully late night vodka drinking did not ensue but Lewis and a couple of the other lads did do that the night before and were very grateful for the paracetamol I had in my bag as we headed towards the factory in the minibus the following morning.

 

Some of the export team from Wisniowski came to the hotel that evening for a buffet and to play 10 pin bowling – the hotel has 2 bowling lanes.

A great time was had by all.

We took a minibus back to the airport, boarded a Ryanair flight back to Bristol airport and finally drove home.

Goodbye to the new friends made.

The Fort Smartpass

The Fort Smartpass door is a very well priced way of purchasing an up and over door with an inbuilt wicket door. 2 doors for the price of 1!

 

The ‘mixed use’ of many garages these days makes the wicket door option suprisingly popular. The wicket door is full height so there will be no ducking or banging of heads e.t.c.

 

There is a small threshold (which is in fact the main boundary frame of the main garage door) which you have to step over. You can wheel bikes over it but for heavier objects such as the lawn mower, you would open up the main door.

 

 

The wicket door can be on the left or right hand side and is always hinged on the outside edge of the main door and always opens outwards.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

These doors come pre-hung on a steel goalpost fixing frame for straightforward installation. Door and frame can be be bought in different colours, just like this one in red with a white frame. This was done intentionally to match the customers front door. It was fitted by Paul and Mark our local fitters in Wrexham, North Wales
