How to measure up for a new sectional garage door.

Posted by

We want you to order the correct size sectional garage door  for your garage opening. Please find below a complete guide and practical advice on how to measure up for any sectional garage door correctly.

Please note that at the point of ordering we will need to know the following (do not allow any tolerances, as we will do it for you):

  1. Brick to brick width of your garage opening
  2. Floor to underside of lintel height
  3. Headroom available above the lintel
  4. Sideroom available each side of the opening inside the garage

Points to keep in mind when measuring for a sectional garage door:

  • The size of a sectional door is expressed as an internal frame size
  • A fully finished steel frame comes with all sectional garage doors as standard
  • The steel frame of a sectional garage door fits onto the rear of the brick pillars to maximize drive through width
  • However, a between brickwork fit is possible if needs be – please call 01691 670394 for details

Please see below an easy to follow guide to the headroom and sideroom requirements based on the specifications from the following sectional door manufacturers: Hormann, Carteck, Henderson, Cedar Door, and Wessex.

Please note that some sectional garage doors require more headroom and sideroom than others.

We have expressed it as a table to make it easier to follow at a glance.
